A SEMINAR ON THE PREVENTION OF CORRUPTION WAS HELD AT SNAU

Sumy National Agrarian University held a seminar on the program “Prevention and Counteraction to Corruption in State and Local authorities.”

The legal order in the state is the fundamental basis of a high level of education and well-being of citizens. The struggle against corruption is an undeniable task of every developed country in the world, because dishonesty destroys the state, blocks the development of the country’s investment and scientific potential, small and medium-sized businesses, weakens the economy, and negatively affects the functioning of all social spheres of citizens’ lives.

Ukraine’s successes in the Corruption Perceptions Index over the past 10 years have shown that positive changes are possible. During this time, Ukraine was marked by a really noticeable increase in the Corruption Perceptions Index, because the indicators increased from 25 points in 2013 to 33 points in 2022. The domestic anti-corruption system has shown its capacity, and this success is noted by the international community. However, on the background of the overall ranking, our results still demonstrate that more efforts are needed to combat dishonesty.

On September 29, a seminar on the general short-term professional development program called “”Prevention and Counteraction to Corruption in State and Local authorities.” was held at SNAU. The speaker of the seminar was the Representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights in the Sumy Region, Associate Professor of the Department of Justice of Sumy National University, Honoured Worker of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, lawyer Tetiana MYRONENKO.

The seminar brought together 35 colleagues from various state institutions of Sumy and Odesa regions. Over the course of four days, public officials updated their own knowledge system on anti-corruption legislation, considered practical examples of corruption crimes, and thoroughly learned an effective tool for preventing and countering dishonesty – the Institute of whistleblowers.

Training took place using the Zoom application. Effective communication was organized using instant messenger chat as well as e-mail. Upon completion of the training, the trainees who successfully passed the final examination were issued with personal certificates of professional development.
